Pain Vs. Suffering

Pain
Why does it exist?
When times are tough
Persist

Pain
Un-named
At the height of joy
Of pleasure
Profane

Comes
Uncalled for
We ask
No more

It’s how we deal
With it
That makes us sane
Its our mind frame

We have choices
When pain arrives
We can dive into
Self pity
And play the tape
Again and again

That’s nothing new
That’s how to suffer
In the deep pit
Of darkness

So can we feel
Pain
And not suffer?
Let go of pain
And live stronger?

Pain
It hurts
Sometimes allot allot
Sometimes little

Denial of it
Is a time waster
So whats
Balance?

Feel the pain
Be present
While its there
Acknowledge validate
Till it goes away

There’s a place for pain
A place for joy
If all was perfect
The world would be
Pure
Pain free
Joyful

But that time hasn’t
Arrived
So now
The choice
We can hold on
To pain
Or let go

We can embrace
Life’s goodness
The good times
Do our best
To rid it
The ways we know

Sometimes
It’s for our own good
And we didn’t
Know

Till later
When we see
Puzzle pieces
Together

Then we’re
Thankful like
Never

But when we don’t
See meaning
To our pain
Don’t go insane

Breath and feel it
Don’t run away
Be gentle
On your pure soul
Then let it go

Don’t dwell
Suffer
Replay the tape
There’s so much
Good

If you just
Open your eyes
Realize
Surprises

Be present always
So you enjoy
The good

And remember
G-d’s nature is
To do
Good

He loves you
Cares about you
Like no one
Else would

Amen!

I finally understood the difference between pain and suffering after a class with Rabbi Shais Taub. It was after a class with Rabbi Shais Taub. He gave a example that realy resonated with me. It goes like this: if you stub your toe and it hurts. You can feel the pain and validate the hurt and move on. Replaying the hurt tape later is called suffering.
